George Smith

 

George Smith was born about 1732 in Germany.

He married Rebecca Bowen in Botecourt County, Virginia. She had been married before to Jonathan Whitely when she was about 14 years old.

Rebecca and George's children may have included:

Philip Smith (1769, married Emily Adkins),
Joseph Smith (1771, married Susannah Ryder),
George W. Smith (1773, married Mary Scott),
Jesse Smith (1774, married Elizabeth Daniels),
Rebecca Smith (1775, married Jesse Stockton),
Margaret Smith (1776, married Ben Livingston),
James Smith (1778),
Eizabeth Smith (1780, married Ezra Matlock),
William Smith (1781),
John (Raccoon) Smith (1784, married Anne Townsend and Nancy Hurt),
Jonathan Smith (1787, married Rachel Derby),
Fannie Mae Smith (1790),
Jane Smith (1792), and
Henry Smith (1793, married Sarah Minton and Sarah Blevins).

They settled about 1784 on the south fork of the Holston River.

George and Rebecca were strict Baptists.

The Holston River flows from Kingsport to Knoxville.
